How we might serve you
The MILL Institute serves leaders and organizations attempting to form an ethical culture in their organization. We accomplish this in several ways:
1. We assist executive leadership in their attempts to reflect upon, identify and appropriately address ethical lapses in the workplace.
- We help executive leadership to understand and implement three means of addressing unethical behavior, based on the three basic approaches to business ethics, namely, via 1) containment, 2) consequences and 3) commitment based approaches to addressing unethical behavior.
- We identify four stumbling blocks to the development of an ethical culture in organizations and assess with executive leadership how these might be present in their organization. Then, we explore how these stumbling blocks might become stepping stones to the establishment of an ethical environment.
2. We assist organizations in the development of an Ethical North Star©, a corporate ethics statement that functions as a means of expressing and respecting the ethical ideals and vision of both the corporation and its employees. When done well, such a statement has the potential to help (re-)establish an organizational culture in accord with an organization’s stated ideals and values.
3. We address situations of conflict that are related to (perceived or real) ethical lapses. Through blending coaching, consulting and retreat work, we enact a process that enables those impacted to be able to dialogue, overcome conflict and find a path forward to re-establish peaceful coexistence and cooperation among those involved.
What
clients are saying
“Over the past several years I have come to appreciate Tom’s wisdom and talents as a provocative speaker, a patient coach and as a consultant to our business. Given my previous leadership training and assessment experiences with Tom, I didn’t hesitate to invite him to meet with my organization’s senior leadership to examine our key business assumptions. As a specialized bank that annually underwrites dozens of mostly non-profit organizations nationally, we are accustomed to working with organizational development consultants. What surprised and pleased me about Tom’s work with us was the high level of interest and receptivity shown by those with whom Tom worked. As the topic of organizational excellence has become somewhat commonplace, we found Tom’s approach refreshing and profound. His ability to practically plumb with us the ethical fundamentals of how we approach our business, our customer and each other to be insightful, personally moving, and professionally helpful. Tom offers timeless, tested wisdom in a well grounded way. I encourage all organizations, large and small, to avail themselves of the opportunity of engaging with Tom as a leadership coach or consultant on ethical matters.”

It has been more than a pleasure to work with (Tom) in regards to
planning the response of (our organization) to the ‘96' Olympic
Games. (Tom’s) organizational skills are incredible, not to
mention (his) ability to
guide the planning process. I was very amazed at the quick manner
in
which (he) heard, understood, and responded to our needs and situation
in Atlanta.

Planning Committee for the ‘96
Olympic Games
